PREFACE

This dictionary is dedicated to the memory of John Allen, a descendant of the Wangerriburra Aboriginals of the Albert and Coomera Rivers in South-East Queensland, and to John Lane, the school teacher who worked so diligently with him to compile the language.Their work was first published as an appendix to the Annual Report of The Chief Protector of Aboriginals for the Year 1913, at a time when Aboriginal languages were not highly valued and in fact were being oppressed in favour of English.

It remained as an archival document for almost a century. It is now presented here in dictionary form for the use of Yugambeh families, and for students and researches of Australian Aboriginal languages.
